Acne Help: You Have Options

by Cinthia Mazzo

Options for people who need acne help have improved somewhat over the years. While online tips offering various skin treatments have greatly increased the quantity of advice out there, it's important for anyone suffering from severe or persistent acne to consult a professionally licensed dermatologist.

Acne is widely thought to be caused by bacteria and exacerbated by hygiene, diet, exercise, and other environmental factors. However there is also likely to be a strong genetic component, especially for people suffering from psoriasis and other severe and persistent conditions. A simple first treatment is to clean the face often, and especially pay attention to outbreak areas. Some people who regularly maintain good hygiene will still suffer outbreaks, however, likely due to genetics and their environment.

Today millions of youths seeking acne help have to navigate a growing variety of choices before finding the treatment which works best for them. Experimentation with a variety of soaps and creams is a nightly ritual of millions of teens and some adults who can suffer from outbreaks well into their 20s and 30s.

There are lots of ways to deal with acne, from basic over the counter creams to strong prescription treatments. The most common active ingredient in topical creams is Salicylic acid, better known as aspirin. Not all people experience the same success with soaps and creams, though, especially when outbreaks are in places that aren't very dirty or oily, like the trunk or the neck. Stronger chemicals, available only by prescription, kill bacteria to fight more persistent cases.

The most potent available treatment may be high-dosage Vitamin A, which is taken orally for several weeks. As a side effect it may produce severe facial dryness and chapped lips, since it affects the oil glands. It is available only through prescription due to the risk of severe birth defects for pregnant women. Those undergoing the treatment also need regular blood screenings to monitor the liver.

Millions of people search to this day for a painless and fast solution to acne. Despite the attempts of medical science dermatologists still can only offer advice such as avoiding improper excising which can lead to permanent scarring and squeezing the pimples to pop them which can lead to tissue damage and in all actuality can press the pustule into the flesh even deeper then it had been. Regardless of all of the hazards, the hideous whitehead continues to be popped and squeezed again and again until the issue finally dissipates on its own.
